Hello friends :) How's it going? Had a great Christmas? Or just work because some of you guys are in parts of the world that doesn't celebrate Christmas? Anyways it's been two months again since my last news post. I'm completely drowned in work and this very cool 3d print project^↗... But without further adieu...

I made one of my comic weapons real

Remember in the last newsletter I sent I said I was trying to make this fictional weapon I designed? Well check out my finished pictures^↗ :D

I'm very satisfied with how it turned out in the end. So far mechanical structures are all finished. I spent a week just to do color design and spray painting and assembling. I have more detailed description of the process in that link and maybe I'll also make a more concentrated tutorial in the future so you guys won't need to dig through.

Another research project that is prompted by this is a potential mesh-CAD design^↗ that features layered shapes and trimmable subdiv surfaces. This is a more distant goal. I may make a prototype first, or try implementing it in Blender. Will see how it goes.

IAICC & Blender conference Shenzhen

Earlier this month I was invited to give a talk about intro do Blender development to a lot of students and Blender enthusiasts. It was a fun thing to do. This year is the second time this event is held, and a lot more people are joining compared to the first time. I met a lot of old friends and made a few new friends there. Definitely more collaboration opportunities down the line!

Our Paint development update

I finally made multiply mixing mode for Our Paint (in RGBA canvas mode). This is useful for coloring renders and painting in designs on top of 3d stuff (Mainly because I just hate texture painting). I used this feature to design the paint job for my prop gun, and turns out to be very convenient. This would be available in the next release of Our Paint together with some more convenience feature designed for drawing diagrams easier.
